Spread the Love, Not Carpet Stains

Happy Valentine's day, everyone!

To no one's surprise, love is both wonderful and messy. So are the gifts we traditionally give one another on this day every year. Chocolates, rose petals, strawberries, and wine always enhance the Valentine's day experience, but they can leave stains on your carpet that are anything but romantic. This week's Floor Tip Thursday is dedicated to preventing just that.

1. Chocolate, strawberry and Flower Petal Stains:

Amazingly enough, stains from all three of these gifts can be removed with the same process!

Mix a bit of dish soap into a bowl of cold water. Using a sponge or a white cloth, dab the mixture into the stain from the outside in until the stain is removed. You may find that some soap residue is left from the process. Simply wait a few minutes and blot it up with some fresh water.

Remember, when using any kind of liquid to clean your carpet you MUST dry the area thoroughly! Neglecting to do so can result in hidden mildew or mold in your carpet fibers.

2. Wine Stains:

Red wine stains are a little bit more involved when it comes to cleaning. Start by blotting up as much of the stain as you can with a clean cloth. Once you've finished that you can pour some cold water over the stain and continue blotting.

When you're confident that you've blotted as much as possible, go ahead and prepare a 3:1 mixture of water and baking soda. Pour your mixture over the stain and let it sit for ten minutes. Once the mixture has dried to a paste you can vacuum up the area to finish.

Voila! You're all set to have a romantic, care-free evening! Enjoy it!
